£32 to £64 - thank you David Waddell

A huge thanks to David Waddell who's just pledged £64. Amazing to think we've raised more than £130 in just TWO hours.

David says:

"With a severe type of prostate cancer, my father has perhaps just a few years to live. I hope he will never need a hospice, but he and his family are much more aware now of the value of his life. All life has infinite value, but the awareness of our own mortality often threatens our well-being in our final years. That's why the work of Havens Hospices is so important. Please give twice as generously as the person before you!"

Now onto £128 - who will be the one to break through the £100 barrier??

£16 to £32 - thank you Jo Curtis

Wow, thanks so much to Jo Curtis - a photographer in Leigh on Sea - for the most recent donation of £32.

"If you’re wondering why you should lend your support to this cause all you need to do is go and visit the hospices – and I can vouch for how humbling the experience is. The work these guys do is tremendous and the only way they can continue to provide this level of care to adults and children is by fundraising in the local community. "

Now, who will give us £64?

£8 to £16 - thank you Stuart Byford

Wow - we're now up to £16 in just an hour - courtesy of Stuart Byford (above) - thank you, thank you.

His words of support to follow...

Now - £32 is the target :)

£4 to £4 to £8 - thank you Leen Van Broeck & Andrew Dubock

Leen Van Broeck (left) and Andrew Dubock (right) both donated £8 at exactly the same time - THANKS GUYS!!!

"My family’s not had the best track record with cancer lately, so I’ve resolved to sponsor any requests I get to support cancer-related things. Also did some gardening at a similar hospice, Helen & Douglas House in Oxford, a few weeks ago, and saw first-hand the great work they do. Aside from that – great marketing/social technology idea, and I’m curious to see where it goes!
Best of luck. And a happy weekend."

"Such an original fundraising idea, I wanted to get on board and chip in. Vulnerable people need help, and those of us who are privileged in life should be willing to do their bit. Hope this snowballs and you reach your final goal, James!"

Thank you again!

Now - who will give us £16??

£2 to £4 - Thank you Andy Lewis

A big THANKS to Andy Lewis who got us to £4 - much appreciated.

"Good luck with this project. Fortunately none of my family or close friends have needed the services of Haven's, but should they ever need to, all I ever hear are amazing things. An excellent and very worthy cause - come on people dig deep!"

Onto £8 - anyone??

1 to a Million - an introduction

Hello. Thanks for stopping by. My name is James Harrod and I've decided to try and raise a MILLION pounds for charity through the kindness of strangers.

I'm not sure how I'll get on, or whether I'll achieve my target, but I'm prepared to try.

My chosen charity is the fantastic Havens Hospices - based in Westcliff, near Southend in Essex, England. Locals will know all about the work they do - others please click here. You too will be inspired.

So what's the plan and can I really pull this off?

I'm starting with a pound. A single coin.

I'm then asking anyone I see, talk to, tweet to double that amount.

Instead of a pound, I'll soon have 2, then 4, then 8, then 16 .. and so on.

Everyone who donates will be given pride of place on this website and a little note about why they gave to this very special cause.

Sometimes we'll have to fight for the next stage and entice business or well known philanthropists - other times we'll be fortunate enough to be on the receiving end of an act of kindness from a complete stranger.

Whatever your background, whatever you can afford - we'd appreciate it.

So here we go...

READY TO DONATE? PLEASE CLICK HERE TO SEE WHERE WE ARE UP TO

£1 to £2 - The first step: James Harrod

So to get the ball rolling I've donated £2 (minimum amount for Justgiving).

Would you like to donate the next stage - £4?

Please click this link if so

I'll then get in touch and feature you on this website.

Thank you
